Student Life
Welcome to Griswold Middle School!
Griswold Middle School offers a powerfully positive environment and a comprehensive educational program to approximately 550 students in grades 5 through 8. This program includes core academics, fine and performing arts, advanced technology, health and fitness, as well as special education and remedial support. A vigorous academic climate and high expectations for all students, combined with a nurturing Social Emotional Learning program, are at the core of our educational community.
Our teachers and administrators continuously engage in professional development, and we have a vision of learning and success in our schools that position our students to be engaged, lifelong learners.
Griswold Middle School is recognized for programming and for student accomplishments in and out of the classroom. Griswold Middle School offers competitive athletic programs and engaging clubs and activities for all interests. Our state-of-the-art Launch Pad lab and Learning Commons offer high-tech offerings for students interested in information technology, communications, history and literature, and more. The Middle School also engages with community organizations and provides leadership opportunities to students.
Griswold Middle School is located at 211 Slater Avenue in the original Griswold High School building (built 1936). It served as Griswold Intermediate School from 1992-2003, before becoming Griswold Middle School. The Middle School received a major expansion and renovation in 2011, as well as more recent technological, security, and other upgrades. The Griswold community takes great pride in the first Griswold Public Schools building, which also serves as the location of the GPS Central Office, Board of Education meetings, and other community gatherings.
The physical campus of the Griswold Public schools is unique in the State, with Griswold Elementary, Middle, and High Schools on one central campus. All schools face a central quad; this close setting promotes cross-level programming and a sense of community that is integral to our mission as a school system.
